TRIPLE MINORITY AND TRIPLE THREAT
Not a lot of my friends know this about me, but Sharkboy and Lavagirl forever changed the trajectory of my life. Something about stepping into a world where your dreams come true spoke to me. And on top of that, we have catchy songs, crazy fight sequences, and love and compassion for friends. I wanted to tell stories that make others feel the way I felt, whether that’s through film or theatre.
My name is Jason Alvarez, a performer trained in theatre, film, and dance, who strives to tell more Black, Latino, and queer stories. I’m based in Jacksonville, Florida. One thing about me is that I have resilience. After facing rejection from my hometown’s performing arts middle school, high school, and my dream college program, I was still able to use my resources to shape me into an even better artist than I could imagine.
I’m currently a senior at Florida State University, pursuing my BA in Theatre Performance, where I have exponentially developed my artistry. I was blessed enough to gain experience from mainstage productions, student and professional film sets, dance shows, and even a hip hop dance competition (GO CAP STATE!!).
As a triple threat and triple minority, I would love to tell stories that help marginalized communities feel truly seen and heard while providing an escape from the harsh realities of the world. I want to connect more with my communities in this way.
